My passion for knitting started out as a hobby. I was self-taught and I started by following simple patterns from the internet, from scarves and hats with the basic knit and purl stitches. My first projects were smaller and simpler items such as kids’ scarves and hats. Giving them away as gifts gave me a sense of satisfaction. Handmade gifts are special and personal, as if you are giving a piece of yourself. It was a simple pleasure working with colorful yarns, and for a stay at home mom at that time, it was enough to keep me busy during the down times.

When we moved to Alaska, my constant craving to knit was justified by Alaska’s cold winter months. My love for incorporating textures and colors inspired me to design my own accessories and knitted items. It was meant to be just a hobby while giving me an excuse to stock yarn and start on multiple projects at a time. After a while, I found myself being challenged to create lovely knitted pieces that are trendy and unique. With my love for texture and color, I started incorporating our beautiful state of Alaska’s inspirations into my work and filled the demand for some nice handmade items. I introduced Shelah Knits on ETSY in 2014 and started selling online.
In August 2020, I quit my day job in banking and finance and focused full time in achieving my dream. Being an aspiring small business owner takes a lot of patience, hard work and dedication, and I have the utmost respect for people who pursue their passion. It is my belief that God gave us gifts and abilities for creativity and resourcefulness and we are to use them to live productive lives and inspire and encourage others to do the same.
My favorite activities include hiking, road trips, blogging, crochet and knitting, to include pattern testing for other designers.
You can find me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Ravelry and ETSY. Thank you for visiting!
